Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Physical & Chemical properties

Particle size distribution (Granulometry)

Administrative data

Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form
Justification for type of information:
The substance is very difficult to isolate from water, and is supplied commercially as a as a 55 wt.% solution of the substance in 45 wt.% water

It was not possible to produce a dry material for testing that was considered to be unchanged chemically by the drying process. The substance darkens in colour and chars at > 175 C forming a dark solid.
Cross-reference
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
Reference
Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
no guideline required
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Visual inspection
GLP compliance:
not specified
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid
Remarks:
liquid used for CSA
Key result
Form:
liquid
Remarks:
Would be solid if possible to isolate
Colour:
Light brown
Substance type:
organometallic
Conclusions:
Citric acid, titanium salt is a light brown solid when in the absence of water and at ambient temperature (20 °C) and pressure (101.3 kPa). Due to the nature of the manufacturing route and of the applications into which the substance is used, the solid substance is, however, never isolated. As water is removed the required processing of the increasingly viscous liquid becomes significantly difficult and could lead to decomposition of the desired substance if too forcing conditions are used for water removal. As a result the material is prepared as a 55 wt.% solution of the substance in 45 wt.% water.

Under conditions of heating, hydroxides/oxides will form and heating to high temperatures leads to charring of the citrate (turns black)
