According to the REACH requirements,

"Any need for testing should be carefully considered taking into account the large mammalian dataset that is usually available at this tonnage level." (Annex X).

Data from the mammalian dataset can be used for the risk assessment (see Section 7).

Exposure of birds is generally only considered for the fish and earthworm food chains following the release of a substance via a sewage treatment works. It is unlikely that a secondary poisoning risk will be identified for 3,5,5 -trimethylhexanoic acid since it is readily biodegradable (Harlan, 2010) and does not bioaccumulate significantly (BCF 0.5-7.0, measured; NITE, 2000).
