Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The registered substance is a complex petroleum UVCB whose constituents have variable physicochemical properties. Therefore, a modeling framework is needed to account for the bioavailability of the constituents in the mixture, which was then used to predict the toxicity of the substance as a whole. The target lipid model (TLM) and HC5, have been applied to soils and sediment using equilibrium partitioning (EqP) model. As such, modeled data are considered fit for purpose. The model used for the calculations was the PETROTOX v4.0 model. PETROTOX is a well-documented and peer reviewed model that is widely used across the chemicals industry.

Toxicity to birds

There is no data available for this substance. However, key data is available for structural analogue; Hyd C9 aromatics. The data is read across to this substance based on analogue read across and a discussion and report on the read across strategy is provided as an attachment in IUCLID Section 13.

Key information is summarised below

Hydrocarbons, C9, aromatics acute oral LD50 was determined to be greater than 2,250 mg/kg body weight, based on the lack of mortality observed in all dosage groups in the Northern Bobwhite (Colinus Virginianus). The no mortality level was 2250 mg/kg bw. The no observed effect level was lower than 292 mg/kg bw based on the slight reduction in body weight noted at this dosage.

The dietary LD50 in the Northern Bobwhite (Colinus Virginianus) was greater than 6500 ppm, the highest dose tested. The no observed effect level was 2340 ppm (mg/kg feed) based on sublethal effects (appearance and behavior).
