Guidance on Safe Use

First-aid measures

Ingestion: If swallowed, call a physician immediately.  Only induce vomiting at the instruction of a physician.  Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Skin Contact:  Remove contaminated clothing and shoes without delay. Wash immediately with plenty of water.  Do not reuse contaminated clothing without laundering.  Get medical attention if pain or irritation persists after washing or is signs and symptoms of overexposure appear.

Eye Contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Obtain medical advice if there are persistent symptoms.

Inhalation:  Remove to fresh air.  If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Obtain medical advice if there are persistent symptoms.

Fire-fighting measures

Use water spray, alcohol foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemicals to extinguish fires.  Water stream may be ineffective. Firefighters, and others exposed, should wear self-contained breathing apparatus.  Wear full firefighting protective clothing.  Keep containers cool by spraying with water if exposed to fire.

Accidental release measures

Personal Precautions: Where exposure level is not known, wear approved, positive pressure, self-contained respirator. Where exposure level is known, wear approved respirator suitable for level of exposure. In addition, to the protective clothing/equipment, wear impermeable boots.

Methods for Cleaning Up: Remove sources of ignition. Cover spills with some inert absorbent material; sweep up and place in a waste disposal container.  Flush spill area with water.

Handling and storage

Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Keep containers tightly closed and away from water or acids.  Wash thoroughly after handling.  Store at 4-40C.  Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Prevent unauthorized access. Storage in stainless steel, amber glass, amber polyethylene or baked phenolic lined container. Keep containers tightly closed. Keep away from heat.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure limit values: None known.

Exposure controls: Utilize a closed system process where feasible. Where this material is not used in a closed system, good enclosures and local exhaust ventilation should be provided. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhalation.

Respiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation or for operations where inhalation can occur, use an approved respirator recommended by an industrial hygienist after an evaluation of the operation. A full face piece respirator also provides eye and face protection.

Hand protection: Barrier creams may help to protect the exposed areas of the skin, they should however not be applied once exposure has occurred. Nitrile rubber gloves should be utilized. Consider the porosity and elasticity of the glove manufacturer and the specific conditions of the workplace. Breakthrough time: Not determined Replace gloves immediately when torn or any change in appearance (dimension, colour, flexibility, etc.).

Eye protection: Provide eye wash fountain and safety shower in close proximity to points of potential exposure. Wear eye/face protection such as chemical splash proof goggles or full face shield where splashing is possible.

Stability and reactivity

Stable; Avoid exposure to strong UV sources. Avoid friction with temperature increase as a result. Avoid direct contact with heat sources. Avoid temperatures higher than 60C. Hazardous polymerization can occur when exposed to direct sunlight. Hazardous exothermic polymerization can occur when heated. Uncontrolled polymerization may cause rapid evolution of heat and increase in pressure that could result in violent rupture of sealed storage vessels or containers. Materials to Avoid: Free radical producing initiators; Contact with peroxides; Contact with reactive metals; Contact with alkalis – These materials may produce an exothermic reactions when in contact with the product. Unintentional contact with these materials should be avoided as hazardous polymerization may occur.

Disposal considerations
