Endpoint:
surface tension
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The surface tension and surface tension in liquid solutions was determined. The static surface tension of a liquid is determined according to the ring method using a K10ST difital tensiometer of Krüss. The maximum force required to detach the ring from the liquid surface is measured by a sensitive torsion balance. The surface tension of aqueous systems containing sparsely soluble compounds is readily measured by OECD Guideline 115. In this case, aqueous solutions of a resin are prepared at 90% of its solubility limit when known. Otherwise, a saturated solution is prepared in deionized water.
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
ring method
Key result
Surface tension:
ca. 38.6 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Test substance liquid
Key result
Surface tension:
ca. 52.7 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Saturated solution (30 mg/L deionized water)
Conclusions:
Under the test conditions, the surface tension of di-TMPTTA (liquid) was found to be 38.6 mN/m at 20°C and the surface tension of a saturated solution was found to be 52.7 mN/m.
Executive summary:

The study was performed to determine the surface tension of the di-TMPTTA using the ring method following OECD Guideline 115. Under the test conditions, the surface tension of the liquid test substance was found to be 38.6 mN/m and the surface tension of a saturated solution was found to be 52.7 mN/m at 20°C (Jeuniaux, 2012).

Description of key information

Surface tension was determined following OECD Guideline 115 using the Du Noüy ring method (Jeuniaux, 2012).
