General Information

Name:
CLP classification for Benzoin resinoid
Implementation:
EU
Type of classification:
self-classification
Remarks:

Benzoin resinoid is not listed in Table 3 (harmonised classification and labelling of hazardous substances) of Annex VI to the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (Annex VI to CLP_ATP10 - in force from 1 December 2018). Based on the available experimental data, the substance is classified for:

- Skin sensitisation (H317)

When considering the C&L of the main constituents the content of benzoic acid would trigger additional classification:

- STOT RE 1 (H372) - local effects via inhalation.

As Benzoin resinoid has a different physical appearance (waxy solid) limiting inhalation exposure compared to Benzoic acid (powder) and the available irritation data for skin and eye are negative it was concluded that this classification does not apply to Benzoin resinoid.
