Description of key information

The toxicity to the aquatic environment of Trans-hex-2-en-1-ol was investigated by performing GLP-compliant short-term toxicity studies to freshwater aquatic invertebrates and algae in accordance with Annex VII of REACH.

Daphnia magna was identified as the most sensitive species based on the outcome of the investigation with a 48h EC50 of 163 mg/L. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50 for Trans-hex-2-en-1-ol is above 1 mg/L, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification as Aquatic Acute 1; H400 in accordance with Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008.

There is no available data on the chronic toxicity of Trans-hex-2-en-1-ol to the aquatic environment. As the substance is being registered under REACH in the 1-10 tonnage band there is no requirement for information on long-term studies to aquatic species. Therefore the classification of the registered substance for chronic effects is based on the short-term toxicity of Trans-hex-2-en-1-ol to the aquatic environment and its ready biodegradability. Considering that the lowest L(E)C50 for Trans-hex-2-en-1-ol is above 100 mg/L, the substance does not meet the criteria for classification for long lasting effects to the aquatic environment in accordance with Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008.
