Description of key information

According to column 2 of REACH Annex IX (9.4), the study does not need to be conducted as direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely, and results from a sediment reworker test and mammalian oral toxicity data do not indicate any cause for concern.

Additional information

According to chemical safety assessment, the substance does not pose a risk to other compartments (water/sediment). NExBTL renewable diesel, which is a UVCB substance of similar composition to the substance, was not found to be acutely toxic to any of the aquatic species tested (algae, crustacea, fish and sediment-dwelling amphipod). Furthermore, NExBTL renewable diesel was found readily biodegradable in OECD CO2evolution test 301B.Numerous studies have also shown that alkanes are readily biodegradable in soils (Hoeppel RE et al 1991, Hawle-Ambrosch et al 2007, Miethe D et al 1994, Salanitro J 2001, Suigura et al 1996). Based on these facts, the expected soil exposure will be occasional, duration of the exposure will be short and the effects to soil organisms will be low.
