TGA EXPERIMENT

From 100°C upwards the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 244°C the sample weight had decreased by 25%. After the experiment, a charred residue remained in the sample container. The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

 

DSC EXPERIMENT 1

A small endothermic peak between 75°C and 150°C was observed. The extrapolated onset temperature of the peak could not be determined due to the peak shape. Another endothermic effect was observed between 225°C and 275°C. After the experiment, a charred residue remained in the sample container.

DSC EXPERIMENT 2

To investigate the peak between 75°C and 150°C a repeated heating cycle was applied. With the first heating the extrapolated onset temperature of the endothermic peak between 75°C and 150°C could not be determined. During cooling no exothermic peaks could be observed. Therefore, it was concluded that the endothermic effect between 75°C and 150°C was not resulting from the melting of the test item. During the second heating, the endothermic effect between 225 and 275°C did not shift to a higher temperature. It demonstrated that reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was the reason for the endothermic effect. After the experiment, a charred residue remained in the sample container.

According to these observations, it was concluded that the test item has no melting and no boiling temperature.

Conclusions:
The substance Broomdex has no melting temperature. Reaction and/or decomposition started at 225°C.
Executive summary:

The melting temperature was determined using differential scanning calorimetry in a GLP study according to EC A.1, OECD 102 and OPPTS 830.7200.

Reaction and/or decomposition started at 225°C. Melting of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. The substance has no melting temperature.
