Description of key information

Not readily biodegradable (28.8% and 17% biodegradation at 10 mg/L and 20 mg/L substance respectively, OECD 301B) based on read across from reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2).

under test conditions no biodegradation observed

freshwater

Additional information

Data on the biodegradability of 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) are not available. In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 “Grouping of substances and read across” and in accordance with the read across assessment framework (RAAF, ECHA 2017) a read across from the analogue substance reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2) has been applied in order to gain information on the biodegradation potential of the target substance. Details on the read-across justification can be found in the attached justification in the respective target entry and in the overall justification for grouping of substances attached in IUCLID Section 13.

In the test investigating the biodegradation of the source substance according to OECD 301B and GLP standards (1993), activated sludge was exposed to 10 and 20 mg/L of reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes. 17 and 29% biodegradation was observed after 28 days for 20 mg/L and 10 mg/L tested item, respectively. Although some biodegradation was recorded after 28 days of incubation, the source substance is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the modified Sturm test.

Based on the above detailed evidence, 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) is not considered readily biodegradable.
