Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides (CAS 171869-89-9) is a multiconstituent substance that hydrolyses fast in water to 1,2-Ethanediamine, N-{3-(trihydroxysilyl)propyl}-,N-{(ethenylphenyl)methyl}derivate, hydrochlorides and methanol (half-life < 16 min, based on read across data). Taking the rapid hydrolysis half-life into account, the environmental hazard assessment for the aquatic compartment, including waste water treatment plant is based on the properties of the hydrolysis products instead of the parent substance in accordance with REACH guidance for Chemical Safety Assessment R.16 (ECHA, 2016).

The substance is not considered readily biodegradable (17 - 29%, OECD 301B) based on read across from reaction mass containing six benzylated amine silanes (EC 700-961-2).

The silanol hydrolysis products of the different constituents of the substance bear water solubilities ranging between 0.001558 and 525.48 mg/L, are not volatile (<0.00028 Pa) and have depending on the constituent a low to moderate potential for adsorption (log Koc: 0.465 – 3.116). On the basis of the physicochemical properties if released into the environment the substance is expected to partly distribute in the water column and partly adsorb to organic sediment and soil particles.

The physicochemical parameters and environmental fate of the other hydrolysis product methanol are well known and described in the SIDS initial assessment report for SIAM 19: Methanol (OECD 2004).
