Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Internal method for zeta potential "ACP 16022011"
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Zeta potential is a characteristic of the repulsive forces between particles. It is determined by measuring the speed of motion of a particle subjected to an electric fiels.
GLP compliance:
no
Other quality assurance:
other: ISO 9001:2008
Type of method:
other: zetameter apparatus
Details on methods and data evaluation:
In general, a particle is negatively charged. A fixed positive ion layer surrounds it (the particle moves with this layer). Outside the particle, in the diffusion layer, the potential varies to achieve neutrality in the bulk solution. Zeta potential is the potential difference between the borders of the diffuse layer.
Zeta potential is a characteristic of the repulsive forces between particles. It is determined by measuring the speed of motion of a particle subjected to an electric fiels.

Data gathering

Instruments:
The zetameter apparatus, from CAD Instrumentation Company, is equipped with a laser and a video camera. An electric field s applied between two electrodes separated by a distance of 11.5 cm in the horizontal quartz cell. The filling of the cell is done by a 50 ml syringe fitted with a 3 -way valve.
Prior to the introduction on the measurement cell, the CNT's suspension us sieved at 45µm.
