Study design

Oxygen conditions:
aerobic
Inoculum or test system:
activated sludge (adaptation not specified)
Duration of test (contact time):
29 d
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
CO2 evolution
Details on study design:
A pre-determined amount of test material was added to a liquid medium to give duplicate bioreactors containing 10mg and 20 mg Organic Carbon (OC). These were inoculated with micro-organisms from activated sludge and aerated at 20-25°C. A ny Co2 released as a result of biodegredation trapped and monitored over 29 days.. The total CO2 produced was calculated as a percentage of the total CO2 that the test material,, based on its carbon content, could have theoretically produced.
Reference substance
Reference substance:
other: Sodium benzoate

Results and discussion

Preliminary study:
Under the strict conditions of the test, A-133816.0 is determined not to be readily biodegadeable. A-133816.0 is determined to be readily biodegadable at a concentration of 20mg/L
There was no inhibitory effects to the micro-organisms contained in the sludge innoculum at a concentration of ca. 37.8mg/L
