- Executive summary:
The pour point of the test substance, Terpenes and terpenoids, turpentine oil, beta-pinene fraction polymerised, was determined via the pour point method, in a procedure compatible with Method A.1 Melting/Freezing Temperature of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 of 30 May 2008, Method 102 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 27 July 1995 and Method 830.7200 of the OCSPP Guidelines, March 1998.
The same process was employed in the preliminary and definitive tests. An aliquot of test substance was poured into the test jar up to the graduation mark and then placed in a glass jacket and then the sample was heated to 46°C in a water bath and was allowed to cool in the air.
At 35°C, the sample was transferred to an ice/water bath maintained at -1 -2°C, and then at 10°C, the sample was placed in an ice/acetone bath maintained at -18 -15°C. Finally, at -7°C, the sample was removed to a dry ice/acetone bath maintained at -35 to 32°C. Then starting at 46°C with 3°C intervals or 6°C with 3°C intervals for the preliminary and definitive test, respectively, the sample was tilted to a horizontal position for a period of 5 seconds during which the sample was observed for signs of flow. The sample was continually observed until the test substance was no longer mobile.
The pour point for the preliminary test was determined to be -17 ± 3°C (256 ± 3K) and the overall pour point of the definitive test was calculated to be -15 ± 3°C (259 ± 3 k).
