Preliminary test

The TGA curve of the test item is shown inFigure 1. Starting at 300°C, the weight of the sample decreased significantly. At 356°C, the sample weight had decreased by 25%.

After the experiment it was observed that the test item was evaporated from the sample container.

Main study

The DSC curve obtained with Experiment 1 is shown inFigure 2. During cooling, no effects were observed (results are archived in the raw data). An endothermic peak was observed starting at 250°C. The endothermic effect was probably obtained due to reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

After the experiment, a yellow residue remained in the sample container (original colour:Colourless). The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.

An additional investigation of the melting temperature of the test item was performed placing two subsamples of the test item for 23 hours at -19.5 ± 0.6°C and at -83.6 ± 1.7°C respectively. It was observed after storage that the test item was a liquid (≤ ‑15°C freezer) and a viscous liquid (< -80°C freezer). According to this it was concluded that the melting temperature of the test item is < -80°C (< 193K).

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The melting and boiling temperature of Dermol TDSA were tested by DSC.
The melting temperature of the test item was < -80°C (< 193K) at 1013 hPa, under the conditions of the test and applying a storage experiment in the freezer.
Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiment at temperatures of > 250°C (> 523K). Boiling of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Based on this, the test item has no boiling temperature.
Executive summary:

The melting and boiling temperature of Dermol TDSA were tested by DSC.

The melting temperature of the test item was < -80°C (< 193K) at 1013 hPa, under the conditions of the test and applying a storage experiment in the freezer.

Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiment at temperatures of > 250°C (> 523K).  Boiling of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started.  Based on this, the test item has no boiling temperature.

In this guideline (OECD 102) study, [conducted with GLP certification], the melting point of the test substance (EC 243-214 -1) was found to be <193 K at 1013 hPa.
