Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

- Eyes: Rinse immediately and abundantly with water for at least 15 minutes. Rinse abundantly while maintaining the eyelids open. Seek medical advice in the event of persistent irritation.
- Skin: Rinse immediately and abundantly with water and remove any soiled clothes and shoes. Seek medical advice in the event of persistent irritation. Wash the soiled clothes prior to reuse.
- Inhalation: remove casualty from the exposure area and move to fresh air.
- Ingestion: rinse mouth with water. Immediately seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

- Suitable extinguishing media: use dry chemical powder, foam or carbon dioxide to extinguish the fire.
Water may be ineffective, but must be used to cool any containers and structures exposed to fire and to protect the personnel. Use water to dilute accidental spills and to remove from sources of ignition.

- Fire fighting measures: exposed workers must wear autonomous positive pressure insulating breathing apparatus approved by NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) with full face mask and clothing protecting the entire body. Cool the containers exposed to heat with sprayed water.

- Exceptional fire and explosion risks: oxidiser. Contact with combustible material may cause fire. Explosive when mixed with combustible material. Explosive when in contact with organic and reductive materials.

- Combustion products: toxic vapours may be released during combustion.

Accidental release measures

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not breathe dust. Wear personal protective equipment.
Mechanically collect the accidentally spilled product by suction or sweeping. Collect the product and place in a suitable container (a plastic container for example). Avoid dust formation. Wash the concerned area with water.
Do not empty into drains or rivers. If possible, avoid releasing into the environment.

Handling and storage

- Handling: avoid contact with eyes, skin or clothes. Avoid dust formation. Do not breathe dust. Keep the container closed. Use in well ventilated areas only. Eliminate all ignition sources. Apply best personal hygiene practices. Wash hands before eating, drinking or smoking. Remove soiled clothes and wash before reuse.

- Storage: Store the tightly closed original containers out of the reach of children, pets, cattle and farm animals. Protect from sunlight and moisture. Store away from reductive and combustible materials. Store away from sources of sparks or heat. Empty containers may contain residues. Cutting, grinding, drilling or welding operations may only be performed above or in the vicinity of the containers if the necessary measures to avoid any risks have been taken.

Exposure controls / personal protection

- Technical measures: the plant must be equipped with local exhaust ventilation, or forced draft ventilation. Fit mechanical ventilation in confined spaces. The plant must be equipped with safety showers and eye showers.

Personal protective equipment:
- Eye protection: wear safety glasses and a chemical-resistant face mask. Provide eye showers in all areas presenting a risk of contact with eyes.
- Skin protection: avoid contact with skin. Wear gloves and appropriate protective equipment to avoid any body contact. The recommended protective materials are: PVC, butyl rubber, neoprene and Viton.
- Breathing protection: use breathing apparatus equipped with a HEPA filter. Breathing protection must conform to the requirements of OSHA Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1910.134 (US labour inspectorate) or of European directive EC 89/686/EEC.

Stability and reactivity

- Stability: stable at ambient temperature and under normal conditions of use. Keep away from sources of sparks and heat.

- Incompatibility: incompatible with reduccing substances, organic products, combustible materials and metals.

- Hazardous reactions/Hazardous breakdown products: oxidation products may contain iodine fumes, hydrogen iodide and potassium oxides.

Disposal considerations

Waste classification: hazardous. Hazard code (I) as per the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 40, Part 261.30.

Disposal methods: Dispose of to an authorised facility, in accordance with local, state or federal regulations. Dispose of packaging to an authorised facility.
