Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

TAOBN is an off-white solid crystal with a density of 1.2713 g/cm³ that melts at 135 – 137°C to a green liquid which decomposes before boiling. The average mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) of the test item was reported to be 184.897 µm.   While TAOBN does demonstrate some solubility in water, it is not technically possible to measure water solubility using OECD TG 105.  Based on the initial solubility study, the solubility of TAOBN is >3.172 and <4.247 g/L. As surface activity is not a desired property of TAOBN, the surface tension was not measured. The vapour pressure was measured to be 813.1 Pa at 21.1°C and the octanol-water partition coefficient as measured is logP = -1.258.

TAOBN is a flammable solid with a burning rate along a 100 mm powder train of 19.32 seconds (5.2 mm/s). However, testing has confirmed TAOBN is not an oxidizing solid and has no explosive properties in the sense of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria.

Experience in production and handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g., the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water and TAOBN is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
