Description of key information

In a test according to OECD 202, 20 daphnids per concentration (nominal: 0, 0.427, 0.939, 2.07, 4.55 and 10.0 ug/L (measured (geometric mean) 102-122% of nominal) were exposed for 48 hours. Immobility was observed at measured concentrations of 12.2 ug/L and higher. The EC50 of the substance is 8.85 ug/L (measured) (Eurofins 2018).

In a study with a semi-static design (renewal on day 2 and 5) the vegative growth of Lemna gibba G3 was observed for a test period of 7 days by measuring the increase of frond numbers and dry weight. Lemna was exposed at nominal concentrations of 0, 0.160, 0.800, 4.00, 20.0 and 100 ug/L (mean measured concentrations 0, 0.0496, 0.192, 1.04,  7.20 and 52 ug/L) (Eurofins 2018). Significant inhibitory effects were determined for yield and growth rate of frond numbers and biomass at test item concentrations of 1.04 ug/L (measured) and above. The EC50-value for yield of frond numbers was determined to be 5.50 ug/L (measured), the EC50-value for growth rate of frond number was determined to be 33.3 ug/L (measured). The EC50-value for yield of dry weight was determined to be 14.6 ug/L (measured), the EC50-value for growth rate of dry weight was determined to be 27.1 ug/L (measured).

Additional data:

The LC50 in brachydanio rerio is 7.5 mg/L (Bayer 1987).

The EC50 of the substance for bacteria is 0.77 mg/L (Bayer 1987).

Additional information

Because the lowest EC50 value (in daphnia) is 8.85 ug/L, the substance needs to be classified as very toxic to aquatic life (H400, aquatic acute cat 1). Based on the available information including that the substance is expected to be inherently biodegradable, no classification for long-term aquatic toxiciy according to EC Regulation No 1272/2008 (CLP) is considered necessary.
