Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid having a melting point <= 160°C
Cross-reference
- Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
- data waiving: supporting information
Reference
- Endpoint:
- melting point/freezing point
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- From April 02, 2018 to April 23, 2018
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: OCSPP 830.7220
- Version / remarks:
- Melting Range recorded during boiling point determination
- Deviations:
- no
- Remarks:
- A third replicate for melting point analysis was performed due to the calculated %diff was 7.8% at the initial melting stage. There is considered to be no impact on the results of the study
- GLP compliance:
- yes
- Type of method:
- other: The test article is placed in a boiling point apparatus for analysis. The test article will initially go through a melting stage prior to reaching the boiling point. The temperature range, at which the test article melts, is recorded as the melting point.
- Key result
- Melting / freezing pt.:
- >= 25.4 - <= 46 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 101.7 kPa
- Decomposition:
- no
- Conclusions:
- Under the study conditions, the melting point of the test substance was determined to be in range of ≥25.4 to ≤46.0°C.
- Executive summary:
A study was conducted to determine the melting point of the test substance according to OCSPP 830.7220, in compliance with GLP. Before boiling, the test substance underwent a melting stage, which was recorded as initial melt stage A (beginning – when fine droplets adhere uniformly on the inside of apparatus) and final melt stage E (end – no solid particles remaining). Under the study conditions, the melting point of the test substance was determined to be in range of ≥25.4 to ≤46.0°C (Meghan, 2018).
2-Propanol was used as the reference material with known boiling point to verify the procedure. A boiling point of 83.9 °C was obtained which is acceptable when compared to a published value of 82.3 °C. Local atmospheric pressure of 101.7 kPa was taken from the Environment Canada website at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca (Vancouver International Airport, located in Richmond BC, approximately 30 km southwest of the Test Facility). Before boiling, the test article underwent a melting stage, which was recorded as Initial Melt Stage A (beginning – when fine droplets adhere uniformly on the inside of apparatus) and Final Melt Stage E (end – no solid particles remaining)
