Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity data of barium dibenzoate are not available. Read-across to the assessment entities soluble barium substances and benzoic acid is applied for the assessment of barium benzoate since the ions of barium dibenzoate determine its fate and toxicity in the environment. Reliable data available for soluble barium substances and benzoate indicate that the moiety of ecotoloxicological concern are barium cations. A reliable, nominal 48h-EC50 of 14.5 mg Ba/L and a 48-h EC50 value of >100 mg/L benzoate were derived. Thus, barium dibenzoate is expected to have a low potential for acute toxicity to invertebrates.
