Description of key information

Metal carboxylates such as zinc m-toluate are substances consisting of a metal cation and a carboxylic acid anion. Based on the solubility of zinc m-toluate in water, a complete dissociation of zinc m-toluate resulting in zinc cations and m-toluate anions may be assumed under environmental conditions. Abiotic degradation is not relevant for zinc cations. Zinc cations and m-toluate anions are not subject to hydrolysation as both ions lack hydrolysable groups. Therefore, abiotic degradation is not considered to significantly affect the fate of zinc m-toluate in the environment.
