Description of key information

The objective of this study was to determine the toxicity of BPAF/BPAF:BTPP-Salt,to the freshwater alga, Raphidocelis subcapitata, over a 72-hour exposure period.

A 72-Hour Toxicity Test with the Freshwater Algae (Raphidocelis subcapitata)”. The protocol was based on procedures outlined in OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 201: Freshwater Alga and Cyanobacteria,Growth Inhibition Test.

The freshwater alga, Raphidocelis subcapitata, was exposed to a geometric series of six mean measured concentrations of BPAF/BPAF:BTPP-Salt ranging from 0.0023 to 1.1 mg/L, based on mean measured concentrations. Effects were evaluated based on cell density, yield, and growth rate using mean measured test concentrations. The 72-hour EC50, EyC50, and ErC50 values were all determined to be 0.087, 0.089, and 0.45 mg/L, respectively. The 72-hour NOEC was determined to be 0.0087 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.45 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.009 mg/L
