Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
23 June 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Version / remarks:
2015
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

- Preliminary Test : The test material could not be ignited at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes. The test material melted.

- Main Test: In the preliminary test the test material could not be ignited by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
other: Not highly flammable in accordance with EU criteria
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline UN N.1, under GLP conditions.

In the preliminary test the test material could not be ignited. The test material melted. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Description of key information

Flammability (Solids)

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Pyrophoricity

In accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure and experience in use pyrophoricity is not to be expected and hence testing does not appear scientifically necessary.

Reactivity with Water

In accordance with Section 1 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be performed as based on chemical structure and experience in use water reactivity is not to be expected and hence testing does not appear scientifically necessary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Flammability (solids)

The flammability of the test material was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline UN N.1, under GLP conditions.

The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

In the preliminary test the test material could not be ignited. The test material melted. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Under the conditions of this study, the test material is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
