Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Additional information

Application to the skin

The test substance was tested in one animal for its skin irritative/corrosive potential. Due to a severe akin irritation in cluding non-reversible squamous covering and induration of the skin in the first tested animal, no further animals were tested dermally.

Based of the result of this study the N.N-Dibenzylamine was found to be corrosive to the skin (Bayer 1994).

Application to the eye

There is no in vitro or in vivo study available which investigated the eye irritation potency of N,N-Dibenzylamine.

According to the Specific Rules in Section 8.2 Column 2 in ANNEX VII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACh) an eye irritation study needs not to be conducted because the available information indicates that N,N-Dibenzylamine meets the criteria for classification as corrosive to the skin. The substance is classified/labelled accordingly by selfclassification.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data dibenzylamine is lclassified labelled R34 corrosive according to 67/548/EEC self classification. According to GHS/CLP Regulation (EC)1272/2008 the substance has to be allocatied to category 1C, Hazard Statement 314 (causes severe burns and eye damage).
