Description of key information

Based on a weight of evidence approach, the toxicity of assessed substance to algae during 96 hours can be estimated using adequate toxicity data of the major constituents, greater than 1% in the mixture.

Seven major constituents were considered, representing about 80% of the mixture.

The toxicity to green algae were estimated using the following additivity formula, as recommended in the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) section 4.1.3.5.2:

∑ Ci / L(E)C50m = ∑ (Ci / L(E)C50i)

Where,Ci = concentration of component i (weight percentage);

L(E)C50i = LC50 or EC50 for component i, in mg/L; L(E)C50m = L(E)C50 of the part of the mixture with test data.

Based on data presented below, the EC50 value 96 hours for UVCB substance is calculated at 1.15 mg/L for green algae.

These data are summarized in the table below :

 Main constituent  CAS Number  EC50 Green algae 96h (mg/L)  Source
 Thymol (at 39.2%) 89-93-8   4.658  ECOSAR v1.11

 Gamma-terpinene (at 11%) 99-85-4   0.592  ECOSAR v1.11
 Linalol (at 4.55%) 78-70-6  5.929  ECOSAR v1.11
 Carvacrol (at 2.25%) 499-75-2  4.658  ECOSAR v1.11
 Beta-carypohyllene (at 2.4%)  87-44-5  0.075  ECOSAR v1.11
