Specific details on test material used for the study:
TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
- Treatment of test material prior to testing:
618 mg of the test item were weighed out into a 500 ml SCHOTT-flask and filled up with 400 ml double distilled water (conductivity: ≤ 2 µS/cm, ROTH). This mixture was stirred in the closed flask protected from light for approx. 24 1/4 h at ambient temperature to prepare a saturated solution. The saturated aqueous solution was stabilised and maintained for at least 30 minutes at 20 °C in a refrigerated circulator without stirring and then filtered through a paper filter (MN 615 1/4, Ø 150 mm, Ref: 531015, MACHEREY-NAGEL). Then, an adequate amount of this filtrate was transferred into a 200 ml measuring flask containing 20 ml double distilled water and filled up to the mark to prepare a 90% saturated solution.

- Final dilution of a dissolved solid, stock liquid or gel:
An adequate amount of filtrate was transferred into a 200 ml measuring flask containing 20 ml double distilled water and filled up to the mark to prepare a 90% saturated solution.

FORM AS APPLIED IN THE TEST (if different from that of starting material)
90 % saturated solution
Key result
Surface tension:
59.21 mN/m
Temp.:
20 °C
Conc.:
90 other: % in saturated solution
Conclusions:
In this OECD guideline compliant study a 90 % saturated solution of the test substance was prepared and the surface tension was determined with a tensiometer at 20°C to be 59.21 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.05 mN/m). Considering that distilled water has a surface tension of 72.75 mN/m at 20 °C and the test item showed a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this referring method, the test item should be regarded as being surface-active material.

Additional information

In the present OECD guideline compliant study a 90 % saturated solution of the test substance was prepared and the surface tension was determined with a tensiometer at 20°C to be 59.21 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.05 mN/m).

Considering that distilled water has a surface tension of 72.75 mN/m at 20 °C and the test item showed a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this referring method, the test item should be regarded as being surface-active material.
