Description of key information

1 -methyl-1 -phenylethyl peroxyneodecanoate is a liquid which can only be marketed together with a phlegmatizer because of the substance's thermal instability. The market product has a self accelerated decomposition temperature (SADT) of +10 °C and is classified as an organic peroxide Typ D and as such not explosive. However, due to the thermal instability, testing is disregarded for determination of the boiling point, the vapour pressure, the flash point, the water solubility and the auto ignition temperature. Furthermore, testing for oxidizing properties does not need to be performed for organic peroxides. The density of the product placed on the market is 0.93 g/cm³ at 0 °C. The log P of 1 -methyl-1 -phenylethyl peroxyneodecanoate cannot be determined experimentally because of the thermal decomposition of the substance.

For exposure calculations, log Pow (= 3.9) and vapour pressure (= 0.00229 Pa) of the degradation product neodecanoic acid were estimated by QSAR calculation. Futhermore, as a value for water solubility is required for exposure calculations, the value of 41.11 mg/L for the decomposition product neodecanoic acid is included as key value for chemical safety assessment.
