Description of key information

Data for 2-(2-(2-ethoxyyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol:
- Pimephales Promelas: LC50(96hrs) >10000mg/l.
- Carrassius auratus: LC50(24 hrs) >5000mg/l.
- QSAR prediction: LC50 = 32g/L
3,6,9,12-tetraoxatetradecan-1-ol
- QSAR prediction: LC50 = 73g/L

Additional information

No data is available for the UVCB substance itself. A limited number of acute toxicity studies are available in fish for a major component of the substance, 2-(2-(2-ethoxyyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol which show that it is practically non-toxic to fish. The LD50 was always in excess of the maximum tested dose. A reliable QSAR predicts that the LD50 of this substance is 32g/L and that the other major component, 3,6,9,12-tetraoxatetradecan-1-ol will be less toxic (LD50 73g/L). It therefore seems an acceptable conservative approach to use data from 2-(2-(2-ethoxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol in place of absent data for the UVCB substance itself.
