Executive summary:

Introduction

The study was carried out using a procedure designed to be compatible with that given in European commission guidance document EUR 20268 'determination of particle size distribution, fibre length, and diameter of chemical substances '(2002).

Method

Initially, sieving apparatus was used in a screening test using a 100um sieve. Then a cascade impactor was used to measure the particle size between 0.3 to 10um.Following the shaking period , the mass of the receiver pan was recorded and the percentage of test item with the particle size less than 100um was calculated.

Results

96.9% of the particles are less than the inhalable particle size 100 um. There were too few of the particles less than 10um to allow the accurate assessment of the mass aerodynamic diiameter.
