First-aid measures
First-aid measures:
- Inhalation: Take the victim to a safe area, equipped with individual self-breathing apparatus (SCBA). Keep the victim warm and at rest. Call a doctor. If not breathing, give artificial respiration.
- Contact with skin: Take off contaminated clothes. Spray water on the contaminated area at least 15 minutes.
- Contact with eyes: Wash immediately the eyes at least 15 minutes.
Main symptoms and effects, acute and chronic:
Possible chronic effects
Severe skin or cornea burns can occur. Anticipate a first-aid treatment immediately available. Ask for medical advice before using a product.
Long-term exposure to low concentration can lead to pulmonary oedema. Cough, shortness-of-breath, headache, and nausea.
Appropriate measures in case of immediate medical intervention or particular treatments:
Treat with corticosteroids (vaporisation), as soon as possible after inhalation. Ask for medical advice.
Fire-fighting measures
Fire-fighting measures:
- Suitable extinguishing media: water (pulverization)
- Non-suitable extinguishing media: do not use water jet.
Particulars dangers linked to the substance or the mixture:
- Specific risks: combustion. Fire exposition can lead to container rupture or explosion.
- Dangerous combustible products: No product that is more toxic than the product itself.
Advices for fire-fighters:
- Specifics measures: Keep away containers from the fire. Stop gas flow if possible.
Use appropriate extinguishing media.

Precaution, personal equipment and emergency procedure:
Ensure appropriate ventilation.
Control the concentration of rejected product.
Try to stop the leak.
Remove ignition sources.

Avoid discharge of the product into environment.
Refer to local emergency procedure.

Control the ammount of product discharged.
Reduce vapor by spraying water mist or fine droplets.
Containment and clean-up:
Ventilate the area.
Wash abundantly contaminated equipment and contaminated area with water.
Handling and storage
-Safety measures during product use:
Only experimented people can manipulate gas under pressure.
Substance should be manipulated with regards to hygiene and safety industrial procedures.
Use only specific equipment. Contact the supplier in case of doubt.
Avoid exposition, be aware of specific instructions before use.
Do not use oil or lubricant.
Do not smoke when handling the product.
Ensure control of gas installation to avoid leaks.
When the installation is out of order: before introducing a gas, purge with an inert gas (helium or nitrogen).
Avoid backflow of water, acids and alkalis.
Consider ways to reduce pressure in gas installations.
Do not inhale gas.
Avoid contact with air.
-Safety measures for storage:
Prevent the product from rising up in the container.
Open slowly the tap to avoid violent pressurisation.
Refer to provider instruction for container storage.
Protect bottle from physical damage.
Short-transportation of the product should be made with a specific trolley (made for bottle transportation).
Keep the tap protection in place, until securing the bottle.
If the user has difficulty for tap bottle opening or closing, stop use and contact the provider.
Do not try to fix or modify the container tap.
Damage taps should be immediately report to provider.
Keep bottle tap clean and uncontaminated, in particularly from oil or water.
Replace the cap of the container immediately after disconnect from the installation.
Do not try to transfer the product to another container.
Do not use direct flam or electrical heating to increase pressurization.
Do not remove or damage the identification label provided by provider from the bottle.
-Necessary measures needed to ensure storage:
Store containers in a well ventilated area, with temperature below 50°C.
Separate flammable gas from other flammable products.
Substance should be stored with regards to hygiene and safety industrial procedures.
Containers have to be stored in vertical position and in a way that prevents falls.
Containers should be periodically checked.
Containers should be stored in area unexposed to fire and away from ignition sources. Containers should not be stored into conditions whichh could exacerbate corrosion. Keep away from combustible materials.

Technical controls:
The product to be handled in a closed system and under strict conditions.
Ensue that exposure limits are not exceeded.
Work permit should be consider, ex. maintenance.
Prefer use of permanently waterproof installations (eg welded pipes).
Equipment under pressure have to be checked regularly to ensure the absence of leaks.
A proper exhaust ventilation should be ensure locally and generally.
Use alarm detector when toxic gas can leak out.
Protective devices:
Choose the individual protection equipment conform to EN / ISO recommended.
Risk analysis of the product use should be conducted and documented in all
the workplaces involved in the use of the product in order to ensure individual protection equipment regarding risks identified. The following recommendations have to be considered:
• eye / face protection: Wear safety glasses with side shields.
Provide eyewash and easily accessible showers.

- Hand protection: Wear protective gloves when handling gas containers.

Wear chemical proof gloves.

Consult information provided by the gloves supplier on the compatibility of the material and its thickness.

Gas filters can be used if all surrounding conditions are known, for exemple the concentration and type of impurities, the duration of use.
Use gas filters and a face shield when exposure limits are exceeded for a short period of time, for exemple during connection or disconnection of bottles.

Consult the product information from the respiratory equipment supplier to choose the most appropriate.

Stability and reactivity
Reactivity: see effects described in the sections below.
Chemical stability: Stable under the recommended use conditions.
Decomposes in presence of humidity, at room temperature into other nitrogen oxides and into nitrogen. Oxidize in air giving nitrogen dioxide (extremely reactive).
Possible hazardous reactions: Can oxidize violently with organic matter.
Conditions to avoid: Heat.
Incompatible materials: Air.
May react violently with reducing agents.
May react violently with combustible materials.

Disposal considerations
Waste treatment:
Gas can be washed with alkaline solution under controlled condition in order to avoid violent reaction.
Do not discharge into the atmosphere.

Ensure that emission level recommended by local regulations or by operation authorisation are not exceeded.
