Results
Preliminary test
Three test mixtures of test item and cellulose 2:1 could not be ignited by the flame. Only local charring was seen.
Three test mixtures of barium nitrate/cellulose 2.1 burned down completely in 67, 70 and 66 s, respectively.

Main Test
Four tests were done for the reference mixture (barium nitrate and cellulose) with 50, 55, 60 and 70 wt. % oxidizer (barium nitrate).

The highest burning rate of 1.61 mm/s was found for the mixture with 60 wt. % oxidizer.

Mixtures of test item with cellulose were prepared in between 10 and 90 wt. % of the test item (Table 2).

As the maximum burning rate of the test item and cellulose mixtures is lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture, six tests were done only with the three mixtures (10, 20 and 30 wt. % of the test item) with the highest burning rates to verify these values (Table 3).

Each mix was measured 6 times, no burning rate could be calculated.

The maximum burning rate of test item and cellulose mixtures was lower than that of the reference mixture of cellulose with barium nitrate (1.61 mm/s).

Conclusion
The test item has no oxidizing properties.

Description of key information

Non oxidizing solid (EU Method A.17.)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

The maximum burning rate of test item and cellulose mixture was lower than that of the reference mixture of barium nitrate and cellulose 2:1 (1.61 mm/s).

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on oxidizing properties of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: The maximum burning rate of the test mixture was less than that of the reference mixture (barium nitrate and cellulose 2:1) in a test according to the EU method A.17.
