Description of key information

The substance hydrolyses rapidly in water to form ethanol and sulpharic acid. The estimated hydrolysis half-life is less than 2 hours. Therefore, aquatic studies cannot be performed as the study criteria (test substance concentration and pH) will nbot be observved.

For the above reason, the aquatic toxicity of the hydrolysis product - ethanol - has been used. The other hydrolysis product is sulphuric acid but this will be neutralized in the test system in order to stabilize the pH.
