One study investigating the short-term toxicity of Reaction products resulting from esterification of sucrose with saturated C16-18 (even numbered) fatty acids to soil macroorganisms is available. The study was performed according to GLP and OECD guideline 207 using Eisenia foetida as test organism (BASF 2016). Mortality was recorded in control, solvent control and treatments between 62.5 and 1000 mg/kg after 7 and 14 days exposure time. No earthworm died in the control and the test concentrations. Thus, the 14d-LC50 is determined to be > 1000 mg/kg d.w. based on nominal concentrations.

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex X, Column 2, 9.4 further studies on the effects on terrestrial organisms do not have to be conducted since the chemical safety assessment indicates that there is no need. Available data on aquatic and terrestrial toxicity indicate that the substance is not harmful to the aquatic and terrestrial environment at relevant concentrations. Hence, the risk the substance poses to terrestrial organisms is considered to be low and further studies are deemed not necessary.
