Description of key information

No well-documented data are available for chronic toxicity of reaction mass of C12 trimethylammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide to fish.

Additional information

Study is scientifically unjustified and disregarded based on the following:

1. In the aquatic environment, reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide is expected to strongly adsorb to particles.

2. When present in low concentrations in the water phase, reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide is expected to be biodegraded.

3. Reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide has a low potential for bioaccumulation

4. Crustaceans and algae are more sensitive organisms to reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide than fish. Chronic toxicity to crustaceans is therefore more representative for long term effects of reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide in the aquatic environment. Reference is made to unpublished data reporting a chronic NOEC for fish for the substance dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride of 0.46 mg/L . No details were given so the value can only be used as an indication of the level of chronic toxicity for reaction mass of C12 trimethyl ammonium bromide and C14 trimethylammonium bromide to fish to be below the mg/L range.
