Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
particle size distribution (granulometry)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Particle size was determined using dry sieve analysis for granular material determined by instrument.
GLP compliance:
yes
Type of method:
other: dry sieve analysis
No.:
#1
Size:
>= 250 other: microns
Distribution:
29.8 %
No.:
#2
Size:
< 250 other: microns
Distribution:
69.2 %
No.:
#3
Size:
< 20 other: microns
Distribution:
<= 1 %
Remarks on result:
other: negligible

The testing was performed in duplicate using two separate sub-samples. The test material subsample masses used were 2.0476 and 2.0227 grams. No sieve clogging or static issues were observed at any point during the testing. For each subsample, over 90% of the test substance had particles either at or greater than ninety microns. The particle size distribution dramatically dropped off below ninety microns. The average amount of particulate matter either at or larger than 250 microns in the test substance was 29.8%. The average amount of particulate matter smaller than 250 microns in the test substance was 69.2%. The average amount of particulate matter smaller than 20.0 microns in the test substance was negligible. The mean weight percent recovery for the two analyses was 98.9%.

Conclusions:
29.8% of particulate matter ≥ 250 µm.
69.2% of particulate matter < 250 µm.
Negligible ( ≤1%) amount of particulate matter < 20.0 µm.
Executive summary:

The average amount of particulate matter either at or larger than 250 microns in the test substance was 29.8%. The average amount of particulate matter smaller than 250 microns in the test substance was 69.2%. The average amount of particulate matter smaller than 20.0 microns in the test substance was negligible. The mean weight percent recovery for the two analyses was 98.9% - excellent mass balance was achieved.
