Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
June 27, 2017 - November 02, 2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Analytical purity: 100% (UVCB)
- Purity test date: 06 June 2017
- Lot/batch No.: 180517GT41
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 31 December 2017
- Appearance: Beige pasty solid
- Storage: At room temperature

The flame of the gas burner did ignite the test item pile. The test item melted, burned with a orange flame and turned into a black brown residue. Grey smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 3 seconds and no propagation of combustion was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was determined in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with UN Test N.1 and EU Method A.10. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Description of key information

The flammability of the test item was determined in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with UN Test N.1 and EU Method A.10. No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The flammability of the test item was determined in a GLP-compliant study performed in accordance with standard methods, without deviations. The study is considered as reliable (Klimisch 1) and is selected as a key study for the endpoint.
