Description of key information
In the static immobilization test (BASF SE, 1998), young Daphnia magna STRAUSS (6- 24 h old) were exposed to the test item for 48 hours according to Directive (EC) No 92/69/C2 (1992). After 48 hours the EC50 of the test substance (Purity = 80 %) was determined to be 0.77 mg/L and the EC50 of the pure test item (Purity = 100 %) was determined to be 0.616 mg/L.

In the acute immobilization test (BASF SE, 1998) with Daphnia magna (STRAUS), the effects of the test substance with a nominal loading of 0 (control), 0.80, 1.76, 3.87, 8.52 and 18.7 mg/L were determined according to the Directive (EC) No 92/69/C2 (1992) under GLP conditions. The nominal concentration of 3.87 and 8.52 mg/L were measured. Only two concentrations were measured (3.87 and 8.52 mg/L). The mean recovery of the nominal concentrations was determined to be 48.1 %.
The effect values (EC50) were then corrected by the recovery of 48.1 %. The study encompassed 2 replicates per concentration and 4 replicate per control. The number of the organisms per vessel was 100. The mobility of the Daphnia was determined in a static 48-hour test by visual observation after 24 and 48 hours. The samples were collected after 0, 24 and 48 hours. The extraction of the test item was carried out via Solid-phase extraction (SPE) dissolved in hydrogen chloride - methanol solution (eluate) and then the samples were treated with ultrasound. The clear supernatants were collected and analyzed by liquid chromatography. The detection of the test substance was performed with evaporative light scattering detector. A positive control with the reference substance potassium dichromate was prepared. After 24 hours the EC50 of the reference substance (potassium dichromate) was determined to be 1.9 mg/L. This result was within the range of 0.9 and 1.9 mg/L and indicates that the culture of Daphnia magna used in this study was responding normally to toxic stress. The analytically determined concentrations of the test substance in the test solutions were lower than 20 % of the nominal concentrations, therefore the effect concentrations are expressed relative to the measured mean concentrations for the evaluation of the test substance. After 48 hours the EC50 of the test substance (Purity = 80 %) was determined to be 0.77 mg/L and the EC50 of the pure test item (Purity = 100 %) was determined to be 0.616 mg/L.
