Description of key information

Several aquatic studies have been performed.


 


An estimation of the LC50 for adult fish species was made. The effects on newly fertilized zebra fish eggs and hatchlings over an exposure period of 96 hours according to the OECD 236 were determined. The test substance has a predicted adult fish LC50 of > 100 mg/L. 100 mg/L shall be used as worst case for chemical safety assessment. ECOSAR is used as qualitative weight of evidence that fish is not the most sensitive endpoint, algae is the most sensitive endpoint (experimentally and qualitatively from ECOSAR).


 


The acute toxicity of the test chemical to Daphnia Magna was determined according to OECD 202 in a static system over an exposure period of 48 hours. The EC50 (48 h) may be expressed as >56.4 mg/L as 50 % effect was not reached at the highest concentration.


Geometric measured mean concentrations were used for endpoint determination due to the recovery of the main component falling below 80 % of the nominal concentrations.


 


The toxicity of the test chemical to an exponentially growing culture of P. subcapitata was determined over an exposure period of 72 hours. The ErC10 is 0.052 mg/L and the ErC50 is 0.47 mg/L.

In a GLP study according to OECD 211, no toxic effects of the test item were observed on survival, growth (body length) and reproduction of the test animals up to and including the highest WAF of 10 mg/L tested (5.4 mg/L, mean measured). The NOEC for all endpoints was determined to be >= 5.4 mg/L and the EC10 and EC50 for all endpoints was determined to be > 5.4 mg/L.


 


Toxicity to microorganisms was determined as well in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test was performed according to OECD 209.


The EC50 (3-h) of the substance for activated sludge is 296 mg/L. The EC10, EC20 and EC80 are 30, 66 and 1322 mg/L, respectively.
