Additional information

The evaluation of the toxicity potential of the substance to aquatic algae was done by the assessment of the experimental data on Similar Substance 01. No experimental data is available for the (target) substance. Justification for Read Across is given in Section 13 of IUCLID.

The analogue substance was tested in a non-GLP guideline study according to OECD 201. The cell concentrations were measured at 24, 48, and 72 hours and the growth inhibition potential of the substances was assessed. Scenedesmus subspicatusas were exposed to the different concentrations of the substances for 72 hours under static conditions.

An EC50 of 33.9 mg/l for biomass was determined at the study of Similar Substance 01. Green algae were exposed to 1.23, 3.7, 11, 33, and 100 mg/l (nominal) of the test material; use of emulsifier allowed testing of high concentrations well above the limit of water solubility. At all test concentrations a small deposit was observed at the test concentration of 100 mg/l. DMF and Alkyl-phenol-polyglycolether were used as a vehicle. No effects in the solvent control could be observed.

The effect concentration is well above the solubility limit of the test substance (water solubility < 1 mg/l). Therefore, it represents a worst case assumption where water solubility is achieved by excessive use of solvent. In conclusion, the substance shows no effect in the range of water solubility. The target substance is considered as to have similar effects to the aquatic algae.
