Description of key information

The test was performed as stipulated in UN-MTC procedure Test N.1 'Test method for readliy combustible solids' and in EC A.1 0, Guideline EC 440/2008.

A preliminary screening test was performed to determine if propagation by burning with flame or smoldering occurs without wetted zone. The substance was formed into a powder train about 250 mm lang by about 20 mm wide by ab out 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low heat-conducting base plate. Naphthalene-1,5-disulphonic acid melted on contact with the burner flame. A burning of the substance was not observed. The substance is not readily combustible.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to UN-MTC procedure Test N.1 'Test method for readliy combustible solids' and in EC A.1 0, Guideline EC 440/2008, naphthalene-1,5 -disulfonic acid is not readily combustible.

Flammability (contact with water)

The chemical structure of the substance contains no metals or metalloids. Testing according to UN-MTC procedure N.5 and EC A.12 was not necessary with reference to Appendix 6, chapter 5.3. Naphthalene-1,5-disulfonic acid does not ignite spontaneously with water and does not liberate gases in hazardous amounts.

Flammability (pyrophoric properties)

The test substance did not deliver indications of pyrophoric properties during the realisation of other tests. Testing according to UN-MTC procedure N.2 and EC A.1 was not necessary. The substance has no pyrophoric properties.

Flammability (self-heating)

Because the heat of decomposition is less than 300 J/g other measurement were not neccessary with reference to appendix 6, chapter 5.1 (b) of UN-MTC and GHS Chapter (d). Naphthalene-1,5-disulfonic acid is not liable to self-heating.
