Acute aquatic hazard

The release of metals from Aluminium lanthanum oxide at a loading of 100 mg/L results in concentrations that are well below respective acute reference values of aluminium and lanthanum (http://www.meclas.eu). Thus, Aluminium lanthanum oxide does not meet classification criteria of Acute Aquatic hazard under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Long-term aquatic hazard

Based on current information and self-classification of toxicity references (http://www.meclas.eu), a chronic ecotoxicity reference value has not been derived for aluminium and lanthanum indicating a lack of long-term aquatic toxicity of both metals. Consequently, Aluminium lanthanum oxide does not meet classification criteria of Long-term aquatic hazard under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Conclusion on classification

The solubility of aluminium lanthanum trioxide is low since dissolution in water resulted in La concentrations < 0.01 mg/L and Al concentrations < 0.03 mg/L after 34 days. Using solubility data, current information and self-classification of toxicity references (http://www.meclas.eu), aluminium lanthanum trioxide does not meet classification criteria of Acute and Long-term Aquatic Hazard criteria of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
