Endpoint:
vapour pressure
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2010-02-22 to 2010-03-10
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study performed by means of differential scanning calorimetry according to the test method A.4 'Vapour Pressure according to the Dynamic Method' as described in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.4 (Vapour Pressure)

Temp.:
20 °C
Vapour pressure:
<= 65 Pa

The test item N,N-Bis(2 -hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate monohydrate is a light grey powder at room temperature. It was not fused before weighing. The test item shows the earliest possible boiling at 125 deg C (at 986 mbar).

The experimentally determined vapour pressure of the test item N,N-Bis(2 -hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate monohydrate at 20 deg C of 2.5X10 -6 mbar (see DSC diagrams 1 & 2 'Experimental determined vapour pressure curve') is not in the recommended range of 1 to 1000 mbar for DSC measurements.

Therefore an estimation procedure according to the test method A.4 'Vapour Pressure according to the Dynamic Method' as described in the Official Journal of the European Communities L383A, Appendix 1, Estimation Method, newest version (Robert S. Boethling, Donald Mackay, Handbook of Property Estimation Methods for Chemicals, Lewis Publishers, year of publication 2000, Cap. 3 - Vapour Pressure, Grain-watson Method, p53 -65) was used. This method is applied for vapour pressures between 103 to 10 -7 mbar.

Conclusions:
The test item N,N-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate monohydrate has a vapour pressure of <=65 Pa (0.65 mbar) at 20 deg C according to the definition in the EEC Directive 92/69/EEC, method A.4 (Grain Watson estimation).
Executive summary:

The vapour pressure of the test item N,N-Bis(2 -hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate monohydrate was determined by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) according to the test method A.4 'Vapour Pressure according to the Dynamic Method' as described in the Official Journal of the European Communities L383A.
