Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 15 September 2016 to 31 August 2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test O.1 (Test for oxidizing solids)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
The deviation is not considered to affect the quality and the integrity of the study. The particle size of potassium bromate is lower than 150 µm instead of being higher.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Key result
Sample tested:
1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
burning rate
Remarks on result:
other: No main reaction after 180s of contact between the test item and cellulose powder
Key result
Sample tested:
4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
burning rate
Remarks on result:
other: No main reaction after 180s of contact between the test item and cellulose powder

The reactions observed for the reference item and cellulose were conform with the ones expected. Indeed, at least, ignition has been observed.

The time of the main reactions were not exactly the same than the ones specified in the guideline (higher for mixture ratio 3:7 and 2:3). Based on the result obtained with the test item / cellulose mixture, these difference don't have an incidence for test item classification.

As no reaction has been observed with the mixture of test item and cellulose, the test item is not classified as an oxidising solid of Division 5.1.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The test item is not classified as oxidising solid of Division 5.1.
Executive summary:

The oxidising properties have been determined according to recognised guideline (UN Test O.1) and under GLP.

A deviation (which didn't affect the quality or the integrity of the study) has been observed during this test.

As no reaction has been observed with the mixture of test item and cellulose, the test item is not classified as an oxidising solid of Division 5.1.

Description of key information

The oxidising properties have been determined according to recognised guideline (UN Test O.1) and under GLP.

A deviation (which didn't affect the quality or the integrity of the study) has been observed during this test.

No reaction has been observed with the mixture of test item and cellulose, so the test item is not classified as an oxidising solid of Division 5.1.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

No reaction has been observed with the mixture of test item and cellulose, so the test item is not classified as an oxidising solid of Division 5.1.
