Description of key information

Solvent Violet 59 is highly insoluble in water with a water solubility of lower than 0.0023 mg/L. The following results provide information on ecotoxicological behavior in the aquatic compartment.

6.1.1 Acute toxicity to fish: After 96 hours of exposure no effects against fish were observed up to a concentration of 500 mg/L.

6.1.3 Acute toxicity to daphnia: Daphnia magna were exposed under static conditions for 48 hours to 10000 mg/L. No toxic effect was observed.

6.1.4 Chronic toxicity to daphnia: No adverse effects were observed at the limit of water solubility (21d-NOEC(reproduction): ≥ 10 mg/L, 21d-LOEC(reproduction): > 10 mg/L, 21d-NOEC(mortality): ≥ 10 mg/L, 21d-LOEC(mortality): > 10 mg/L). The results are expressed in terms of nominal concentrations.

6.1.5 Toxicity to algae: No toxic effect (NOEC (reproduction): 1mg/L, ErC 50: > 1 mg/L) against algae at the limit of water solubility under exposure conditions. The results are expressed in terms of nominal concentrations.

6.1.7 Toxicity to microorganisms: Solvent Violet 59 showed 0.0 % respiration inhibition of activated sludge at the highest test concentration of 100 mg/L after 3 hours. The EC50 is higher than 100 mg/L and the NOEC is equal or higher than 100 mg/L. The effect value relates to a nominal concentration, since no analytical monitoring was performed.

All studies were conducted according to national and/or international guidelines. The toxicity studies are classified as acceptable and satisfy the guideline requirements.
