Description of key information

The 3 hour EC50 for microorganisms exposed to Ceraphyl 55 is greater than 1000 mg/L, the highest concentration tested. The 3 hour NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of Ceraphyl 55 to aquatic micro-organisms was determined in a GLP-compliant, static respiration inhibition study following OECD guideline 209 (Covance 2004). Aquatic micro-organisms were exposed to Ceraphyl 55 for 3 hours at nominal concentrations of 0.10, 1.0, 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L. The respiration rate of the exposed microorganisms was then measured and compared to the control respiration rate.
