Description of key information

In a Buehler test conducted according to OECD 406 and in compliance with GLP (Hüls, 1992c) tetrakis(2-butoxyethyl) orthosilicate was found to be not sensitising.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

In a Buehler test conducted according OECD TG 406 and in compliance with GLP (Hüls, 1992c), Dunkin Hartley guinea pigs were treated (10/10 control/test group) for three six-hour induction phases (using 100% test substance in phases 1 and 2, and 50% in corn oil in phase 3) during which there was mild irritation in some animals. None of the guinea-pigs showed any skin reactions in the challenge phase and hence tetrakis(2-butoxyethyl) orthosilicate was concluded not to be a skin sensitiser.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data tetrakis(2-butoxyethyl) orthosilicate does not require classification for sensitisation according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
