Four DSC-runs in aluminium crucibles with a hole showed an endothermic effect (melting) in the temperature range 25 - 40 °C with an onset temperature of 30 °C while the test item was heated up. Two DSC-runs in aluminium crucibles with a hole showed an exothermal effect (freezing) in the temperature range -5 - +5 °C with an onset temperature of 3 °C while the test item was cooled down.

The melting point of the test item is 30.4 °C. The estimated accuracy of the melting point is ± 0.5 K.

Conclusions:
The DSC measurements showed that the test item had a melting point of 30.4 °C.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 102, Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1. The melting range was determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC 25-40°C). The test item and the reference are heated up from the starting temperature to the final temperature at a constant heating rate in a defined atmosphere (nitrogen). Open crucibles are used as containers for the test item and as empty reference crucible. The quantity of heat absorbed or released is measured and recorded. The DSC measurements (25 - 40°C) showed that the test item had a melting point of 30.4°C under atmospheric conditions.

Description of key information

The test item had a melting point of 30.4 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
30.4 °C

Additional information

A study was conducted according to OECD test guideline 102, Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1. The melting point / melting range was determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The test item and the reference are heated up from the starting temperature to the final temperature at a constant heating rate in a defined atmosphere (nitrogen). Open crucibles are used as containers for the test item and as empty reference crucible. The quantity of heat absorbed or released is measured and recorded. The DSC measurements (25 - 40 °C) showed no clear melting point (onset). The test item had a broad melting point of 30.4 °C.
