Description of key information

Abiotic degradation:

The constituents of the submission substance hydrolyse moderately to rapidly in contact with water to form their corresponding silanol hydrolysis products and methanol/ethanol.

Biotic degradation:

The constituents of the submission substance are expected to undergo hydrolysis during the timeframe of biodegradation in water study to form their corresponding silanol hydrolysis products and methanol/ethanol. No significant biodegradation of the silanol hydrolysis products are expected.

Methanol and ethanol are readily biodegradable.

The half-life in air ranges from 0.1 to 17 days and 0.1 to 1.5 days for the constituents of the substance and their silanol hydrolysis products respectively.
