Conclusions:
The test chemical Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated (CAS: 157707-43-2) is not likely to be toxic to aquatic algae at least in the dose range of 6.61-1100 mg/l.
Executive summary:

Following studies of structurally andfunctionallysimilar read across has ben assessed to conclude the toxicity extent of Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated (CAS: 157707-43-2) towards aquatic algae is summarized as follows:

To study the effects of Dodecan-1-ol, ethoxylated toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria test was carried out for 72 hr.

Effective concentration EC50 to 50% of Desmodesmus subspicatus when expeosed to Dodecan-1-ol, ethoxylated for 72 hr is 6.61 mg/L.

The BCF value of Dodecan-1 -ol, ethoxylated reported was not >= 500 as well as the substance was found to be rapidly degradable. Since the additional criteria mentioned in the CLP regulation related to BCF, biodegradability and Log Kow is not satisfied thus the substance has not been considered for aquatic toxicity classification.

Toxicity to aquaic algae and cyanobacteria was carried for 72 hr with 2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethanol to study the effects on aquatic algae.

The effective concentrations EC50 to 50% of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in 72 hr is 1100 mg/L. It can be concluded from the grwoth rate value that the 2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethanol (CAS: 112-34-5) is not toxic to the aquatic algae and can be considered as “not classified” as per the classification criteria for aquatic environment.

Thus based on the effect concentrations of structurally and functionally similar read across it gives the conclusion that test substance Alcohols, C8-18, ethoxylated (CAS: 157707-43-2) is likely to be not toxic to aquatic environment at environmentally relevant concentrations and applying weight of evidence approach it can be considered to be “not classified” as per the CLP classification criteria.
