Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
Version / remarks:
2008
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Parameter:
other: decomposition energy
Remarks on result:
other: decomposition energy -280 J/g with an onset at 350°C (exothermic)
Parameter:
other: decomposition energy
Remarks on result:
other: decomposition energy -230 J/g with an onset at 350°C (exothermic)

Before the main test was performed, a DSC measurement in a closed glass crucible under nitrogen was performed up to 500°C. The exothermal decomposition energy was <-500 J/g. Hence, further tests were not performed.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
no explosive properties
Executive summary:

In the Klimisch 1 GLP-study Smekay (2017) determined the explosive properties of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-nonyl phenol according to EU A.14.. In a pretest using the DSC method the decomposition energy was determined to be < 500 J/g. Hence, further testing was not needed since the substance has no explosive properties.

The information is considered relevant and reliable for the risk assessment.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

In the Klimisch 1 GLP-study Smekay (2017) determined the explosive properties of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-nonyl phenol according to EU A.14.. In a pretest using the DSC method the decomposition energy was determined to be < 500 J/g. Hence, further testing was not needed since the substance has no explosive properties.

The information is considered relevant and reliable for the risk assessment.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In a pretest using the DSC method the decomposition energy was determined to be < 500 J/g. Hence, further testing was not needed since the substance has no explosive properties. The CLP and GHS criteria for classification were not met.
